2010 CHCC Committee Descriptions

Clean and Safe Committee

The goal of the Clean and Cafe Committee is to keep Capitol Hill streets and sidewalks clean and safe, curb graffiti, and improve the overall appearance of the neighborhood. We are working with business and property owners to address faulty street lighting and other issues concerning neighborhood safety ranging from emergency phones to surveillance. The mission of this committee is keeping our neighborhood a viable place to live, work and play.

Membership Committee

Membership committee works together to identify short and long term strategies for recruiting members in order to maintain a self-sustaining organization. Goals include membership development and cultivation, revenues, setting dues, and tracking renewals.  The committee also brainstorms ideas for new programs to benefit its current members, in addition to strategizing ways to build stronger relationships, connect with members of the community and build its membership base.  Committee members coordinate regularly with marketing and finance committee on their efforts.

 Marketing Committee

Marketing Committee develops marketing strategies to promote Capitol Hill as a unique urban neighborhood that is welcoming to everyone. The committee has contracted with a local Capitol Hill web design firm to create a dynamic neighborhood website that promotes local businesses during Sound Transit construction, partnered with Capitol Hill Times to develop a walking map of the Hill, developed a Chamber marketing packet, implemented a temporary student discount program and is currently exploring several other marketing efforts to benefit community and chamber members.

The purposes of the Retail Revitalization Committee:

1)         Based on the Broadway Retail Strategy Study, reach out to property owners, educate them about qualities of a vibrant retail street and provide examples of the kinds of retailers who comprise a “good” tenant mix.

2)       Get them to start thinking whether the existing tenants are part of this vision.

3)       Assist property owners in identifying retail tenants that meet the market identified in the Retail Strategy Study

4)       Encourage owners to look at their storefronts to see where they can upgrade the retail and signage appearances
